people: working to fight the cold.

last week was COLD. brr. since this entry is supposed to focus on people, i'll mention that my coworkers are awesome. everyone worked together to keep each other and the students warm. there were lots of tag games, run and holler, and songs about penguins.

the highlight of the week was definitely the kaboom that happened in one of the bathrooms. i was waiting behind another field group for the bathrooms before the students switched over to their cabins when all of a sudden the overwhelming smell of poop starts to sweep through the area. upon checking one of the toilets, the other instructor and i realized that one of the students in his group had had an accident. all over the stall. i only got a peek before i had the impulse to start dry heaving, but i give major props to the instructors who stepped up to clean up the mess. i mean, these people rock. apparently there was some of the brown stuff on the toilet, the walls, the floor. everywhere.

i enjoy that the folks i work with are serious about their jobs but don't take life too seriously. everyone knows how to have a good time, such as star wars themed meals complete with a darth vader mask, a voice coming from another room and princess lea prancing around. i even dressed up in fluorescent clothing for line dancing and called myself the highlighter.

in other life news, i was a little hit and miss with my 2011 goals. i've been having some lower back pain so i haven't been running as much. i modified the cookie recipe i made from last week because we were out of flour. i used some bisquick, cornmeal and oats instead. they came out DELICIOUS. i did manage to save away some money from this paycheck, but not as much as i'd hoped. next time.

oh, i saw grace potter and the nocturnals in LA. that was pretty exciting. she put on a fantastic show...even if we were the only ones in the theater dancing. it was also the first show i'd seen in over a year. weird.

the summer job search is going well. i have an interview next week for an SCA trail crew leader position. this weekend, i submitted about half a dozen applications to various camps, farms, farm camps and public policy places. we'll see what happens!
